Governance
CESA is directed by a eleven-member Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers elected by a General Assembly of founding members. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis, and the approval of a majority of the Board is required for all major policy decisions. The Chairperson of CESA is also elected by the Board. The General Assembly supervises the activities of the Board, and the Ministry of Social Affairs monitors the organization as a whole. The Ministry reviews CESA’s accounts and conducts regular audits.

Mission of the Association
Applying of scientific and practical techniques to help the local Bedouins of Saint Katherine and surrounding areas in order to support them with environmental, social and health services to ensure them with a dignified and safe life.

The overall objective of the association is to improve the level of
social and public services especially for the Bedouins in the Saint Katherine,
South Sinai, Egypt.
To fulfill these objectives a Community and Environmental Services association was
established and included the following units and laboratories:
Mobile Veterinary Health Care Vehicle (MVHCV)
The mobile veterinary unit (vehicle) successfully provided the planned
veterinary services (regular check-ups and provision of medicines whenever
deemed needed), to the husbandry communities in St. Katherine Protectorate. The
area in which services were provided covers the city of St. Katherine and it’s Wadis (about 27 wadis)
in St. Katherine. By the end of 2011, MVHCV treated a total numbers of 4570 animal heads ( 356 camels, 1348 sheep, 2866
goats and a token hen was also treated.
Water Quality Unit (WQU)
The mission of this unit concerned with the
ground water. Technicians were analyzed samples for customers at prices less
competitive. Analyses included physical
and chemical parameters of water and toxinogenic algae contaminated the wells.
In addition a purification unit has
been established near Al-Zayitona well to produce 10 m3/daily of
purified water free of charge. The purification station uses 6 techniques for
water desalination and disinfection through sedimentation bath with alum, sand
filter, ultraviolet based disinfection, solar energy based desalination, chlorination
and ozonization. Surveying of over flourosis effects on teeth was carried in
different wadis in Saint Katherine.
The ground water of Saint Katherine
attracted the attention of many researchers in Egypt and two posters
published in Biovision Conference in Alexandria 2012 and a paper concerning
contamination of ground water by natural radionuclides published in Assiut
Journal of Botany.
Biocide and
Mushroom Production Unit (BMPU)
The unit has been established within the association
administration office. 103 local Bedouin women attended 6 training courses in
mushroom cultivation. 13 women have started a mushroom cultivation plots and
the association arranges their sales on behalf of the women. Further training courses
were held on "Mushroom and biocide production" organised and
presented to Agriculture Directorate staff and 13 students from Cairo University.
A total of 200 people were trained in mushroom production. In addition a
booklet under the title" Production and marketing of mushroom" was
published.
This unit has been realised within the association
administration office. Information on cultural heritage values has been
provided to 50 school children (3 school classes) in St. Katherine city. The
unit has purchased information booklets and posters mainly aimed at children’s’
education. 30 local people were trained in organising awareness campaigns. 50
school children were selected and have received training in preparation of
promotional materials.
Awareness campaigns provided health education for women on the proper
diet and food contamination that threaten their health. In addition to other
titles such as harmful effects of smoking, environmental camp on sustainability
and bio-diversity and natural balance, birds flu, world’s environment day, carbon
reduction, water pollution and environmental rights. In addition three booklets
were published by the unit they were: women rights in Sinai, food contamination
by mycotoxins and Simplified and useful in the healthy regulated food. Awareness
campaigns provided health education for mothers and their children on the
proper diet and food contamination that threaten their health.
